This weekend my boyfriend and I house sat for his parent’s
in Worthington, we went to Antrim Park both Saturday and Sunday. I made a
promise to myself, and my dogs, that we would take more opportunities to walk around
Columbus this year. Making good on my promise, I took the dogs and the boyfriend
on walks around Antrim Saturday and Sunday.
Antrim has
a walking trail which circles the lake, each lap on the walking trail is about one
mile. On Saturday we walked around the lake twice, the poor pug wasn’t willing
to go any longer. Sunday, we walked to the park from his parent’s home and
spent some time reading, frolicking, chewing sticks, and practicing yoga (Zac,
dogs, and myself respectively) in a little tucked away grove in the park.
According
to the Columbus Park Department Antrim is a 120 acres park where running,
walking, biking, skating, and pets are allowed. The park has fields for soccer,
football, and rugby, they also have tennis and basketball courts as well as a
playground. Access to the Olentangy Trail is available. The Olentangy Trail is
a paved 18 miles long path and connects Worthington, Downtown Columbus and OSU.
It passes by the lake so it’s a nice rest stop or location to park your car as
you venture back and forth. (Post on the amazing work of Greenway Trial at a later
date).
Antrim is
basically perfect for everything you’d want to do as a single, couple, or with
a family. Any kind of outdoor activity is welcome at this park, it’s one of
those flawlessly versatile places where you can sit by the lake and read a book
in the sun, train for your 5K, or take a short jaunt with the dog. Antrim is
one of those rare suburban bustling parks where you can stay all day or stay
for just a few hours and not feel like you’ve wasted your time trekking back
and forth to get a little sunshine and fresh air. It’s perfectly located,
perfectly hospitable, and perfectly suited to whatever activity you have in
mind.
